FAQ’s ABOUT COUPLES COUNSELING
What is Couples Counseling?
Couples counseling, also called marriage counseling or couples therapy, is a type of mental health counseling or psychotherapy. It helps all types of couples (married and unmarried) identify and points of conflict and seeks resolution and understanding.
Couples counseling will often lead to greater intimacy and understanding between partners because counseling creates a safe, non-judgmental space where present and past relational conflict can be resolved and thoughtful decisions about the future can be made.
However the boundaries and roles of relationship and love are defined by your family, relationship counseling is a type of mental health counseling or psychotherapy. It helps all types of couples, traditionally married or otherwise, identify points of conflict and seeks resolution and understanding.
How Does Couples Counseling Work?
Couples counseling is often led by a licensed marriage, licensed clinical psychologist, family therapist or a licensed counselor that specialized in helping couples.
The sessions can be from an hour to multi-hour, which are designed to help problems move more quickly in the initial phase of learning about one another’s core issues and experiences. This can lead to a deeper understanding of yourself, others, and more rapid growth and progress.
Couples counseling is often short-term depending on the severity of the conflict. Most couples who commit to at least 10 sessions will usually often see the greatest progress in resolving conflict, nurture trust, and cultivate a deeper connection with each other.
Does Insurance Cover Couples Counseling?
Yes, insurance often covers couples counseling. Silver River Counseling, however, is a private pay practice which means we are considered out-of-network.
NOTE: We do not bill insurance. It is up to the client to seek potential reimbursement from their insurance provider.
Can Couples Counseling Be Online?
Absolutely! We have several couples who choose to have couples counseling sessions online.
Some couples travel a lot and are in separate locations. Others have a hard time finding child-care for in-person sessions.
Online couples counseling can be a convenient way to work on your marriage!
